Let there be sound!

I’ve been playing around with the Adso pinyin recordings and developing a plugin to handle playing the sounds. I figured out from this article how to play mp3s using the Javasound API and I converted David’s recordings from wav format to mp3. Unfortunately the set of sounds I received from him is not totally complete, so I have to wait on David to get the complete set. But in the meantime, I’ve added some hooks into the zdt so that you should be able to drop in this “sound plugin” when its released and have it just work. Performance seems a little slow on Linux, but seems to work ok on Windows. Although, you really can’t reach too many conclusions testing on just three computers. :)

Next release date

I’m setting a goal of releasing zdt 0.4.5 by Feb. 7.  Let me know if there are any issues that you feel must be addressed in this next version.

I’ve gotten the latest Adso database file working, which is cool because it now includes the traditional characters.  It has about ~125k entries compared with the maybe ~26k+ entries of the CEDICT project.  I’m still looking into any performance issues with using the larger dictionary file.  If anyone has been using the old Adso dictionary file and has run into speed issues, let me know as well.
