This Note editor will be a tab in the Add/Edit entry dialogs.
Any comments so far?

There is no single feature that would revolutionize ZDT more than being able to attach one’s own soundfiles to dictionary and flashcard entries. Displaying a graphic with example sentences will also make the experience much richer. Ideally, example sentences would be a separate entity from unstructured notes, so they can have soundfiles attached to them, as well. Also, ideally, you would want the ability to automatically link an example sentence to each of the words that were used in the example sentence. Good luck and Godspeed!!!

So for the notes part you can put whatever text you like, whether it be example sentences or anything else. I’ve also got preliminary sound support working now. I hope to get a build out sometime next week so people can play around with what’s there so far.

A potentially excellent addition. Although it’s a completely different proposition, and probably out of the scope of your goals for ZDT, pooling or in some other way collecting user-added metadata, such as these notes, would greatly enrich the dictionaries and utility of the flashcards. A way for people to (voluntarily) feed data back into a central database, a bit like CEDict or dict.cn, would be a potentially revolutionary step. Just an idle fantasy…!

Great idea Graham. I like it a lot. But yeah, it will be awhile before I have time to tackle something like that. =)

Hi,
regarding the idea of a central or local metadatabase i suggest the integration of db4o into zdt. It would greatly reduce your coding efforts related to databasemanagment compared to nearly all other solutions.
And I am convinced, that the totally different paradigma of an OODBMS perfectly fits ZDT.
I think you could come to a product which does a real good job on “brainwashing” the chinese language into peoples head.
