PlecoDict support
June 12th, 2006
I just bought a copy of PlecoDict for my Axim x50. I like it a lot so far. But of course I want to use my ZDT wordlists with it. So, I opened up Eclipse and about 30 minutes later, I had created my very own PlecoDict plugin. Anyone who’s interested can grab a copy of it from the SF page. Just download the jar file and place it in your zdt/plugins directory. You then should see a plecodict option in the Export Format dropdown of the ZDT Export wizard. There’s one option that allows you to specify whether or not to export the definition. If you don’t, then PlecoDict will fill in the definition with the definition in its own dictionary. I’ve found that to be really useful and cool.

Hi Chris,
Great to know that you’re working on an update !
When using Definition Test Flashcards, definitions are sometimes very confusing because some characters will have many definitions (some of them being quite a stretch from the “obvious” definition) and the prog. will only pick one of them randomly.
For instance, the character 戴 will have all the following definitions : to put on; to respect; to bear; to support; wear (glasses, hat, gloves)
For me, It is easy to guess 戴 if the definition that shows up is “to wear”, but it can be confusing if “to bear” or “to support” shows up…
I thought one way to avoid that might be to have a switch : show all definitions/only one definition for the quizz. If that is not practical, showing all the definitions instead of only one might be a better choice.
anyway, keep up the great work !
ps : re your previous post regarding chinesepod transcripts : I may be missing something but I think transcripts are already available from within the audio files … In iTunes, just right click on the file and select Get Info/Lyrics
