Sound plugin released

February 4th, 2006

I just put the first version of the sound plugin on sourceforge. It does not yet contain a complete set of the pinyin sounds. Download it from here. It currently weighs in at about 15.6mb.

To install, just drop it in to your [zdt_install_dir]/plugins directory. There will be a ‘Play sound’ option when you use the right-click menu of the Dictionary View or any Category Editor. There will also be a ‘Read Text’ icon in the Annotation View toolbar that will read all characters in that view. Note that there’s no current way to cancel the Read Text function once it starts!

I’m mainly interested in seeing if this mechanism of playing sounds works on every system. I’ve noticed on my Linux box a noticeable lag when playing a sound for the first time (after startup). So i’m also curious at how the plugin performs. Suggestions are welcome!

Sorry this took so long… its been busy here.

Took a look at the sound plugin. Awesome work! I can see what you mean about not having a full set of the tones, as I found a few words in my categories that were missing sounds in the middle.

I also noticed that they sounds work in the dictionary, category, and annotator views; but not in the Flashcard view. Are there future plans to include this in the flashcard view?

Sounds will definately be added to the flashcards. I was also thinking about added some sort of Tone test, similar to the one found in the old Pinyin Master software I used to have. I’m also open to other ideas.

Oooohh, a tone test would be awesome! Trying to decide what other things might help. I will think hard and let you know at some point this week/weekend.

    Hello,
Just wondering if anyone could help. I did something stupid and started my blog using a numerical archive system, and now I'd like to change it so that the post title is part of the URL for SEO reasons. Is there any WordPress plugins that anyone knows of that could switch it without sending Googlers to invalid pages? Maybe some sort of redirector to the correct page?

    Thanks.

    This is wonderful software.

I am running XP and am trying to install the zdt sound files but without success.

Any help would be most appreciated.
