zdt and Firefox
August 22nd, 2005
I made a post on Chinese-forums.com advertising the new zdt release. One poster, Trusmis was reporting that he couldn’t get the zdt launching from his Debian system. Turns out the problem was that the Browser widget was trying to use Firefox as its underlying browser. Since I had only ever tried using Mozilla (with zdt) on my Gentoo box, I did a test with Firefox. Lo and behold, it didn’t work. I can’t remember what prompted me to try this, but I saw that I had the binary version of Firefox on my system. So I uninstalled that version and emerged the source version of it. And for whatever reason that worked. I still don’t know why, so I made a post on the Eclipse SWT newsgroup. So far no responses yet.
Trusmis was kind enough to create a shell script for me that sets the two environment variables needed to run the zdt on Linux. I need to figure out a way to incorporate that. Plus I need a way to gracefully disable the browser plugin if the user doesn’t have a required browser version.
